How to Make Jerk Ice-Cream

One thing you’ll come to learn about jerk seasoning is that it can be incorporated into a variety of dishes. When it comes to this fiery blend of herbs and spices, the possibilities are endless. So, it’s no wonder persons are using jerk seasoning to make ice cream. Wait…hear me out, this dessert might seem questionable, but if you give it a chance, you might just hit the dessert jackpot.

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious this ice cream tasted. So, here is a recipe from Grace Foods, for a Jamaican homemade jerk-banana ice cream.

 1 pint heavy cream
 1 tbsp vanilla extract
 1 tbsp jerk seasoning, mild
 ½ cup sugar
 6 egg yolks
 1 banana, peeled

Place cream, jerk seasoning and vanilla bean in a medium-sized sauce-pot, and bring to a boil.

Place sugar and egg yolks in a mixing bowl. Remove cream from heat and whisk into the yolk mixture in small 1-2 ounce increments. When ¾ of the cream is in the yolks, add the yolk mixture back into the saucepot.

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture begins to slightly thicken or reaches 180°F on a thermometer.

Transfer product to a clean bowl add the banana and using an immersion blender, puree,

Strain into a clean bowl and cool in an ice-bath or in the refrigerator, stirring occasionally.

When the product is completely cooled, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and churn.
